Okta adds USER_IDENTIFICATION policy controls in Preview

Okta's August Identity Engine release adds the Policies API USER_IDENTIFICATION policy type as Early Access in Preview, replacing a single org-wide FastPass sign-in-button setting with per-app policy control.

Previous state

The FastPass sign-in button was governed through a single org-wide setting rather than a USER_IDENTIFICATION policy associated with each app sign-in policy.

Current state

Preview orgs can use the Policies API USER_IDENTIFICATION policy type and its userIdentification.settings.securityMethods.fastpass.showSignInButton action with ALWAYS or NEVER to control the FastPass sign-in button per app.

Who needs to care

Okta Identity Engine administrators and developers managing app sign-in experiences in Preview orgs that use Okta FastPass.

What to do

For Preview testing, review app-specific sign-in requirements and update policy automation to use USER_IDENTIFICATION rules where per-app FastPass button control is needed; do not assume Production availability.

What the source does not prove

Okta proves Early Access availability in Preview and the documented per-app policy semantics. It does not establish general Production availability or mean every Okta app or tenant has adopted the new control.
