Google Cloud Run decommissions Go 1.22 and schedules Go 1.23 for 21 August

Google Cloud Run's managed runtime schedule marks Go 1.22 decommissioned from 28 July 2026 and Go 1.23 for decommissioning on 21 August 2026, after which affected managed-base-image workloads cannot be created or redeployed and existing workloads may be disabled.

Google Cloud RunGo 1.22Go 1.23managed base imagesruntime decommission

Previous state

Cloud Run workloads using Google-managed Go 1.22 and Go 1.23 base images remained within their supported or deprecated deployment windows.

Current state

Go 1.22 has entered decommission, and Go 1.23 reaches the same state on 21 August; decommissioned managed runtimes cannot be used for creation or redeployment and receive no runtime, system-package or OS updates.

Who needs to care

Cloud Run functions and source-deployed workloads using Google-managed base images for runtime IDs go122 or go123. Directly deployed container images are outside this lifecycle policy.

What to do

Locate workloads using go122 or go123, upgrade to a supported Go runtime, rebuild and redeploy before the applicable decommission date, and verify that deployment automation and base-image references no longer pin the retired runtime IDs.

What the source does not prove

The lifecycle policy applies to Google-managed base images, not arbitrary container images deployed directly to Cloud Run. Google says existing decommissioned workloads may be disabled rather than promising an immediate universal shutdown, and schedule dates may be delayed.

Lifecycle history

Dated event sequence

  1. Go 1.22 deprecated

The managed Go 1.22 runtime entered its deprecation period.

  2. Go 1.22 decommissioned

Creation and redeployment using go122 cease under the managed-runtime policy; existing workloads may be disabled.

  3. Go 1.23 decommission scheduled

The same managed-runtime enforcement boundary is scheduled for go123.

  4. Go 1.24 deprecation scheduled

The next runtime in the Go lifecycle ladder is scheduled to enter deprecation, with decommission in March 2027.
