Previous state

End-of-life Azure Functions v3 applications on Linux Consumption could continue running despite being outside extended support.

Current state

Those v3 Linux Consumption applications stop running after the enforcement date; Functions v4 is the required runtime migration target.

Who needs to care

Azure Functions apps configured for runtime version 3.x and hosted on Linux in the Consumption plan. Windows Consumption apps and v4 apps are not within the stated stop-running boundary.

What to do

Inventory Linux Consumption function apps targeting v3, validate language and extension compatibility, migrate to Functions v4, redeploy and perform production verification before 30 September 2026.

What the source does not prove

The September 2026 stop applies specifically to end-of-life v3 apps on Linux Consumption. It is separate from the broader retirement of the Linux Consumption hosting option on 30 September 2028 and does not currently apply to Windows Consumption apps.
