Previous state

AWS Tools for PowerShell v4.x was fully supported through 28 February 2026, then remained in maintenance mode from 1 March through 31 May 2026 with only critical bug fixes and security updates.

Current state

Since 1 June 2026, AWS Tools for PowerShell v4.x receives no updates or releases. Previously published releases remain available through public package managers and the source code remains on GitHub.

Who needs to care

PowerShell scripts, automation, CI/CD jobs, and administrative tooling that load AWS Tools for PowerShell v4.x packages and depend on ongoing AWS service/API coverage, bug fixes, or security updates.

What to do

Migrate supported scripts and environments to AWS Tools for PowerShell v5 using AWS's migration guide. Test the v5 breaking changes that apply to each workload, including PowerShell/runtime floors, nullable outputs, removed or renamed parameters and cmdlets, credential resolution, and changed serialization behaviour.

What the source does not prove

AWS states that existing v4 applications can continue to function unless an AWS service makes a fundamental change, but v4 receives no further releases after 1 June 2026. Previously published packages and source remain available. The evidence does not announce removal of those packages or shutdown of the underlying AWS services.
